U-M Creates State’s First Human Embryonic Stem Cell Line

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—University of Michigan researchers have created the state’s first human embryonic stem cell line, achieving a long-sought goal that provides the foundation for future efforts to develop innovative disease treatments.

New Federal Rankings: U-M First in Research Spending at Public Universities

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The University of Michigan ranks first in research and development spending among the nation’s public universities and colleges, according to the latest rankings from the U.S. National Science Foundation.

The rankings, announced by the agency on Monday, show that U-M moved up two positions, passing the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison, to take the top slot among public universities.

New $46-million Labs to Enable Research of Mechanical Engineering and Nanotechnology

U-M, MSU to lead $4.2 million, federally funded Great Lakes climate change initiative

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The University of Michigan and Michigan State University will jointly lead a federally funded effort to help Great Lakes-region residents anticipate and adapt to climate change.
