HealthMedia Offers the First Complete Hip Health Coaching Program

ANN ARBOR, MICH. – February 17, 2010 – HealthMedia, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, has introduced HealthMedia® STRIDE™, an integrated, online Digital Health Coaching program that helps with the management of all phases of hip health. HealthMedia, Inc. is the pioneer in combining advanced technology and behavioral science to deliver Digital Health Coaching programs.

For the first time, one solution addresses a broad range of hip health issues. HealthMedia® STRIDE™ offers a comprehensive approach that addresses three major components of hip health and hip pain management. The first phase of the program is the Symptom Management and Pre-habilitation phase, during which participants learn techniques to manage their symptoms through lifestyle changes. This phase also supports the treatment decision-making process. Should hip surgery be the treatment of choice, Commitment to Surgery is the second phase of the program designed to guide participants through the surgery preparation process. The hip replacement patient receives validation of the decision to have surgery and is prepared mentally, emotionally, and physically for surgery. Finally, the Rehabilitation component is meant to prevent injuries by helping the patient appropriately return to a previous level of activity. During this stage, expectations are set for a realistic recovery and the participant is provided with screenings and exercises for a safe progression through recovery. The goal is to get the individual back to work and daily activities as quickly as possible, reduce disability and absenteeism costs, and increase productivity.

“A complete wellness solution should include a range of programs that address areas such as weight, nutrition, physical activity, and sleep, but also aging well programs like our new hip health Digital Coaching solution, in order to help keep today’s aging, working population healthy, and prevent higher-risk conditions from developing,” said Ted Dacko, president of HealthMedia, Inc.

The Digital Coach
A HealthMedia® Digital Health Coaching program begins with an online consultation, during which the employee provides information to the digital coach about his or her personal insights, motivation for change, and perceived barriers to achieving his or her goals. It then uses the proprietary HealthMedia® Fusion™ technology, applies advanced behavioral science and the latest scientific research on health conditions, and draws upon the expertise of hundreds of health care professionals such as physicians, psychologists, nutritionists, trainers, and behavioral scientists to deliver a unique plan for that individual.
Each personalized plan follows proven clinical guidelines while addressing the individual’s personal history, goals, emotional triggers, barriers, will power, beliefs, and current stage of change. Each participant receives personalized communications that are tailored visually to connect with his or her unique characteristics and lifestyle. These combined elements help to create an emotional connection with the participant that is designed to enhance the experience, build motivation, and improve outcomes.

Digital Health Coaching is unique in that it is person-centric and works across multiple conditions and lifestyle factors, delivers consistent high-quality coaching every time, scales to any size population, and is private, confidential, and convenient. As a result, leading employers and health plans are achieving measurable outcomes that demonstrate improved productivity and reduced health care costs across their populations.
