ANN ARBOR – Taylor Bond wants people who are willing to go into people’s homes and engage in some “kitchen table” marketing. Bond has started franchising Newcomers Welcome Service (www.newcomersws.com), a business he purchased last year that has been a regular feature in the Ann Arbor area since its founding in 1960.
Newcomers representatives visit new residents and share information, coupons and offers from retailers, doctors, dry cleaners and other businesses in the community.
“Last year, we were brainstorming business concepts that would make good franchise opportunities, and Newcomers came up,” said Bond, who also runs Children’s Orchard, a resale chain that focuses on children’s clothes, toys and accessories. He contacted Newcomers and reached an agreement to buy the company. Since then, Bond has been working to get the franchise concept up and running to meet the needs of the estimated 40 million people who move
